“민족일보의 기치는 진보적이고 애국적인 남코리아운동의 외침”
새로운 인터넷신문 ‘민족일보’는 부활이며 찬사다. 민족일보는 남코리아민중항쟁으로부터 태어나 1961년 창간된 후 같은 해 군부쿠데타에 의해 폐간된 민족일보의 부활이다.
민족일보는 또 1961년 12월 남코리아군부정권에 의해 살해당한 민족일보 창립자인 조용수에게 보내는 찬사다. 조용수는 2008년 무죄를 선고받았다. 사형 이후 47년만에 정의가 실현된 것이다. 그러나 이 오랜기간 민족일보의 기치를 드높였던 수많은 코리아인들이 고통받고 심지어 목숨을 잃었다. 그 기치는 ‘우리민족이 나아갈 방향을 제시하고, 부패를 고발하며, 노동자들의 권리와 이익을 보장하며, 우리나라의 통일을 외치는 것’이다.
‘민족’이란 코리아의 특수한 단어로 불어로는 ‘국가’ 또는 ‘민족’으로 번역한다. 그러나 둘 중 어느 것도 코리아민중들에게 민족이라는 말이 갖는 의미를 오롯이 담아낼 수 없다.
그럼에도 불구하고 프랑스역사속 발미전투(1792년 9월20일)에서는 ‘민족’이라는 개념이 잘 나타났다. 이 전투에서 프랑스군은 프랑스혁명기간에 첫 대승리를 거뒀다. 결정적인 순간에 프랑스 켈러만장군은 “비브 라 나씨옹(우리나라여 영원하라, 민족만세)!”을 외쳤다. 그리고 프랑스군은 파리로 진격하려던 프러시아군대를 물리쳤다.
오늘날, 이 또다른 결정적인 순간에 민족일보의 기치는 여전히 진보적이고 애국적인 남코리아운동의 외침이다. 전세계, 특히 프랑스에서 활동하는 민족일보의 동지들은 민족일보와 어깨를 나란히 하게된 것을 영광으로 생각한다.

“Banners of ‘Minjokilbo’ are the battle cry of the progressive and patriotic South Korean movements”
The new Internet Journal “Minzokilbo” is a resurrection and a tribute.
It’s a resurrection because the original “Minzokilbo”, founded in 1961 in South Korea in the wake of the People’s Uprising, was closed after the military coup the same year.
It’s a tribute because the founder of the “Minzokilbo”, Cho Young-soo, was executed in December 1961 by the military regime in South Korea. Cho Yong-soo was acquitted in 2008. Forty-seven years after his execution Justice was done for Young-soo. But during all these years many Koreans suffered and even died because the banners of “Minzokilbo” were also theirs : “to show our nation’s direction, to accuse corruption, to protect the rights and interests of the workers and to shout out the reunification of our country.”
“Minzok” is a very specific korean term often translated in French by the words “Nation” or “Peuple”. But none of them can exactly express what “Minzok” means for the Korean People.
Nevertheless, a good expression of the “Minzok” idea can be found in French History during the Battle of Valmy (september 20, 1792), the first major victory by the army of France during the French Revolution. At the decisive moment, the French General Kellerman cried out “Vive la Nation !” (“Long Live the Nation !“, “Minjok manse !“) and the French Army defeated the Prussian troops who were preparing to march on Paris.
Today, at another decisive moment, the banners of “Minzokilbo” still are the battle cry of the progressive and patriotic South Korean movements. For their friends all around the world, especially in France, it would be an honour to stand shoulder to shoulder with them.
