미국의 진보적 아카이브인 민중저항(Popular Resistance)이 성명발표와 함께 매일 인터넷서명, 항의메일을 남코리아대사에게 발송하는 등 김혜영양심수의 즉각석방을 촉구하고 있다.
민중저항은 2013년 6월 자본의 권력화에 반대하며 평화, 정의, 경제적 평등, 환경을 지키기 위해 민중의 힘을 결집하자는 취지로 설립됐다.
지난달 18일 미주민가협양심수후원회, 평화미국원정단, ANSWER, CODEPINK 공동주최의 <광주민중항쟁정신계승·박근혜정부퇴진·탄저균·지카가지고미군떠나라 촉구집회>에 연대했던 민중저항은 5일 김혜영양심수 석방촉구 성명을 발표한 후 온라인서명캠페인을 이어가고 있다.
민중저항 홈페이지 상단에 소개된 서명캠페인에 참여할때마다 안호영남코리아대사에게 김혜영양심수석방을 촉구하는 항의메일이 발송된다. 12일 현재 170여명이 동참했다.
민중저항 공동의장이자 메릴랜드 녹색당 상원의원후보인 마가렛 플라워즈와 전상원의원인 케빈 지스는 6일 미국남코리아대사관앞에서 열린 <김혜양양심수석방촉구·인권유린박근혜<정부>퇴진 촉구 긴급집회>에 참가해 연대했으며 원정단과 함께 남코리아대사관에 항의서한을 전달한 바 있다. 당시 마가렛 플라워스는 <미국정부나 남코리아정부나 민주주의를 위해 활동하는 사람들을 억압하고 심지어는 암살도 서슴없이 저질렀다. 이런 정권은 끝내야한다.>며 <세계의 많은 사람들이 함께 싸우고 있다. 우리는 반드시 승리할 것이다.>고 밝혔다.
민중저항은 서명캠페인을 벌이면서 <표현의 자유를 전제로 한 평화적 활동에 징역2년형은 가혹한 일이다. 국제조직인 국제앰네스티 또한 김혜영양심수의 석방을 요구하고 있다.>며 <우리는 다른 인권단체들에게 남코리아의 상황을 알리는 것과 함께 이 상황이 (남코리아의) 국제적 망신으로 이어지기 전에 김혜영양심수와 다른 정치수들을 석방해 문제를 즉각 해결하기를 촉구한다.>고 주장했다.
한편 12일 현재 김혜영양심수는 18일째 무기한 옥중단식을 이어가고 있으며 광화문에서 노숙단식을 진행하고 있는 양고은공동대표와 3곳에 분산수감된 8인 코리아연대회원들의 동조단식은 6일째를 맞고있다. 또한 국내 뿐 아니라 미국, 프랑스 등 세계 각지에서 김혜영양심수의 석방을 촉구하는 목소리가 날로 거세지고 있다.

They are educating activists in the US about the serious situation in the Republic of Korea for social justice activists.The government of President Park Geun-hye is using the National Security Law in an extreme way to ban protests and arrest activists. For example, simply speaking positively about North Korea is a crime punishable with seven years in prison. In December, 2014, at the request of the government, the Constitutional Court of Korea banned the Unified Progressive Party, which was founded as a coalition party in 2011, because of its position calling for peace and reunification with North Korea.Activists who participated in peaceful demonstrations last year are currently in jail or are facing imprisonment. They are considered to be prisoners of conscience by CAIRD members. One activist in particular, Kim Hye-young, needs support from people in the US.SIGN THE PETITION CALLING FOR KIM HYE-YOUNG’S RELEASE:Kim Hye-young was arrested on July 26, 2015 for participating in a sit-in during a peaceful demonstration in Seoul.In January 2016 she was sentenced using the National Security Law to two years in prison and sent to the Seoul Detention Center.
