11일 일본대사관앞 평화의소녀상에서 미국평화운동가 클라우디아안드라데가 성명 <일본군성노예제피해자들에게 정의를!>을 발표했다.
클라우디아는 <35년간, 일본정부와 군대는 코리아를 식민지배하고 코리아민중들을 참혹히 탄압했다. 그리고 70년이 넘게 정부는 <위안부>라고 불렸던 이들에게 가한 잔혹한 전쟁범죄를 인정하지 않고 있다.>고 짚었다.
이어 <일본정부와 군대가 이 전쟁범죄에 가담했다. 증거는 명백다. 미국과 네덜란드의 기록물은 일본정부의 허가하에 일본제국주의군대가 설립한 <위안소>의 규모와 잔혹성을 입증하고 있다. 일본정부는 이 진실을 지워버리고 그들이 잘못을 범한 여성들이 세상을 떠나기까지 충분한 시간이 지나길 바라고 있다. 그러나 전세계의 연대운동은 이 역사적인 비극이 잊혀지도록 두지 않을 것이다.>라고 강조했다.
그러면서 <이 여성들이 겪어야했던 고통은 형용할수 없고 이 부정의를 바로잡는 유일한 방법은 범죄를 시인하고 피해자들에 대한 배상을 하는 것이다. 11개국의 여성들이 납치당했고 강제로 성노예가 됐다.>고 말했다.
계속해서 <이 여성들은 제국주의전쟁과 가부장제의 피해자인 다른 여성들을 위해 연대망을 꾸렸다. 이 연대는 남반부까지 닿고 있다. 우리가 정의를 실현하는 유일한 길은 국제적인 연대운동을 구축하는 것이기 때문이다. 그들의 투쟁이 곧 나의 투쟁이고 우리는 정의를 위해 계속해서 싸워나갈 것이다.>라고 밝혔다.
끝으로 그는 <우리는 일본정부에게 요구한다>며 <일본정부는 공식사죄하라!>, <피해자들에게 배상하라!>, <이 역사를 교과서에 기록하라!>, <피해자들을 위한 기림비를 설립하라!>, <일본군성노예제피해자들에게 정의를!>이라고 힘차게 외쳤다.

발언기회를 주셔서 감사합니다. 앤써의 조직자 클라우디아입니다. 일본정부와 제국주의군대에 의해 자행된 범죄에 대한 정의를 요구하는 수많은 여성들을 대신해 목소리를 내며 이 자리에 섰습니다

이 여성들은 인종차별적인 식민지체제에 맞서야할 뿐 아니라 수십년간 그들을 억눌러온 가부장적체제에도 맞서야합니다. 여성들은 그들의 경험을 이야기하기 두려워하고 여성들의 삶에 가치를 두지않는 체제가 어떻게 그들을 바라볼지 두려워합니다. 성적인 희롱과 강제는 오늘날에도 여성들이 직면하고 있는 주문제입니다. 저임금노동자들, 빈곤층들의 대다수가 여성들입니다. 가정을 유지하는 가사일도 여전히 대부분 여성들이 떠맡고 있습니다. 그리고 여성들은 미점령군의 피해자입니다. 미점령군대의 군인들은 여성들을 강간하고 살해하고도 처벌을 받지 않습니다. 이는 여성들이 여전히 사회의 불평등한 성원이라는 것을 자명하게 보여줍니다. 일본군성노예제피해자들을 위한 정의는 모든 여성들을 위한 정의로 나아가는 첫번째 디딤돌이 될 것입니다.
수많은 여성들이 일본제국주의군대에게 끔찍한 운명을 겪었습니다. 우리는 일본정부에게 요구합니다.

Justice for the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery
Thank you brothers and sisters for this opportunity to speak. My name is Claudia and I am an organizer with the ANSWER Coalition. I am here to lend my voice to the countless women demanding justice for the crimes committed by the Japanese government and Imperial Army.
For 35 years, the Japanese government and military colonized Corea and brutally oppressed the Corean people. And for 70 more years, the government has refused to acknowledge the atrocities inflicted upon those who have been called ‘comfort women’. Thousands of women were abducted and forced into sexual slavery to serve the soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army. To this day the Japanese state refuses to simply acknowledge this heinous history. The government and military are implicit in these war crimes. The evidence is clear, American and Dutch records reveal the extent and brutality of the government sanctioned brothels established by the Japanese Imperial Army. The government hopes to bury this truth, hopes that enough time passes and that even the women who they have wronged, pass away, but a worldwide movement of solidarity will not let this tragic history fade away.
The pain these women suffered can not be described, and the only way to rectify this injustice is to acknowledge the crime committed and to pay reparations to the victims. Women from across 11 countries were kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery. It is these same women that have come together to build solidarity networks for other women who are victims of imperialist wars and a patriarchal system. Their hands have reached out to women all across the Global South
Because the only way we’ll see justice is to build an international movement of solidarity. Their struggle is my struggle, and we will keep fighting for justice.
These women are not only fighting a racist colonial system, but they are also fighting a patriarchal system that kept them quiet for decades. Women were afraid to come out about their experiences, afraid of how a system that does not value women’s lives would judge them. Sexual harassment and coercion are still major issues facing women today. Women make up the majority of low income workers and of the poor. Women still take up the bulk of household work to maintain the family. And women are the victims of the occupying US military whose soldiers rape and murder women with impunity. It’s plain to see that women are still unequal members of this society. Justice for the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery will be the first stepping stone for justice for all women.
Thousands of women suffered a horrible fate at the hands of the Japanese Imperial Army, we call on the Japanese government to meet these demands:
Issue an official apology
Pay reparations to the victims
Record this history in textbooks
Erect a memorial for the victims
Justice for the victims of Japanese military sexual slavery!
